Why Join Freemasonry?
Why Join Bebington Lodge Freemasons
Throughout 300 years of heritage and history, our members have come from all walks of life and each with their own unique story to tell for why they became a Freemason.
As one of the oldest social and charitable organisations in the world, we have a thriving community of approximately 200,000 members throughout England and Wales, as well as Districts overseas. Freemasons use four key values to help define their path through life: Integrity, Friendship, Respect, and Charity.
Membership is open to people from all backgrounds and our aim is to empower members to be the best they can be.
Here’s just a few reasons to become a Freemason:

Friendship
There are many different reasons why people become Freemasons – an important one is camaraderie. Many friendships made through Freemasonry endure for life, and lodge dinners which follow our formal meetings offer members the opportunity to enjoy each other’s company in a more relaxed and informal environment.
Other reasons put forward by members include a sense of belonging and structure – which are not always easy to find in today’s fragmented society – and a desire to help other people by getting involved in the local community.
Develop Yourself
Members take part in the Ceremonies – which are small morality plays performed from memory – and there are formal toasts at the dinners which follow.
These have helped many men to improve self-confidence and life skills such as public speaking.

You want to make a positive contribution to society
Whether taking part in social events or fundraising, charity is at the very heart of Freemasonry. Our members make valuable contributions to deserving causes and it’s because of this we’re recognised as one of the largest charitable givers in the country, contributing £51.1m to deserving causes in 2020.
Did you know? Freemasons are responsible for Manchester City playing in blue!
In 1894, facing financial crisis, Manchester City Football Club was offered a helping hand by the Freemasons. In acknowledgement of the organisation’s act of charity, the club adopted masonic colours, giving them the light blue shirts that are so recognisable to football fans today (Tranmere, Liverpool and Everton Fans of Bebington Lodge may not have supported this lol!)
Enjoyment
Most importantly of all, Freemasonry is about enjoyment; if Bebington Lodge Freemasons didn’t enjoy Freemasonry, they would not remain part of the organisation, as most do for life.
